The John L. Quigley Family Trust is a yearly scholarship award provided to the Aztec Rugby Foundation for the direct benefit of qualified student rugby athletes. The scholarship was established in 2001 in honorarium of John Quigley. John played rugby at San Diego State University from 1966-1969 and continued to play and coach at the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club subsequent to graduation. Through rugby John traveled internationally and throughout the US playing the game he loved. He was a successful businessman and loved family member.
The yearly scholarship award of $5000.00 is approved for distribution for San Diego State Rugby students who are active members of the team in the fall and spring semesters, who complete the application process and who conduct fund raising or participate in other team activities or events for the benefit of the team. The award recommendations are based on the review process with the Aztec Rugby Foundation and coaches and may be granted as sole or multiple awards. The scholarship will continue indefinitely as long as San Diego State University fields a rugby team.
